Dwight's Childhood Years
Dwight is the third son of David and Ida Eisenhower, born in Denison, Texas in the grand old year of 1819. His family moved back to Abilene, Kansas, so that David could get a good job working for his brother-in-law's creamery. Though things were starting to look up, they lost little 3-year-old Paul to diphtheria (A potentially fatal upper-respiratory tract disease). Dwight was only two years older than his brother Paul at that depressive time. He was able to recover from the loss, and was able to create fonder memories of Abilene that he'd cherish and value throughout his life, like his days on the sports teams at his high school.
Once he graduated from high school, Dwight spent a few years working at the same creamery his father had while also being a volunteer firefighter. He used the money to put his younger brother Edgar through school, then they agreed for Edgar to return the favor. Luckily he ended up not having to pay for Dwight's college education. In 1911 he was accepted into West Point Military Academy, though his fondness for pranks and other silliness made his teachers think he wouldn't do better than the average soldier.
